5 Looks To Make Your Living Room More Relaxing

Spending so much time at home the past few years has changed many things, especially how quickly we tire of our home’s interiors. Because when your living room is also your office and personal cinema—you know you’re spending a lot of time there.

But now, as more people are finally getting out of the house, we thought it’s time for your living room to make a comeback of sorts.

This week’s trending looks from Instagram are all about softening your living room and restoring it to its original function: a place to unwind and relax after a long day. So chuck those old piles of work and dust off that novel you’ve been saving. We’re bringing living rooms back.

1. Daybed sofa

Looking for a couch you can seriously spread out on (or host a friend for a night)? Then you’ll want to break from tradition and trade a sofa for a cozy daybed like this one from @athomeonsweetcreek.

“What a beautiful and cozy look,” says designer Megan Nelson, of Nest with the Nelsons. “Soften up your spaces with this new trend that allows the ultimate opportunity to relax and still provides some great seating options for your living room.”

2. Glass coffee table

Hey, small dark living rooms! We’re looking at you. And this glass coffee table from @damariscon_stilo might be just the thing you need to brighten up your space and add some peek-a-boo intrigue.

“A glass coffee table is the most versatile of all coffee tables,” says designer Doreen Amico-Sorell, of Sorell Interiors. “It works with most decor styles. And glass coffee tables don’t take up the visual space that a solid-top table does, making your space look larger. Extra points that your rug gets seen more!”

3. Pom pillows

Interested in adding more fun pops of color to your living room? Then look no further than these pom pillows from @the_rug_republic.

“These pom pillows are such a great look because they add a little bit of delicate whimsy to any space,” says Nelson. “It helps make your finishes look chic.”

4. Artsy TV blind

We know the creative types among you will love this TV blind featured by @tuishomemag.

“Artwork is such a valued possession within a home,” says Nelson. “It shows a higher level of design and personality. But unfortunately, traditional artwork can be very costly. A TV blind is a fun and affordable twist on artwork while hiding that ugly black box on the wall. Beauty that meets function equals a total winner in my book.”

5. Bright and funky bench

When you need more seating—and swagger—it’s time to incorporate one of these bright and funky benches (like we see from @sowmyao7) into your living room.

“Benches are such a fun way to add a colorful zing to any mundane space,” says Nelson. “They are so versatile and bring personality to any space—and having just a little extra seating is never bad. It’s the perfect combination of fun, splashy, and function.”
