The Latest Jersey Shore Beach and Boardwalk Openings
May 19, 2020
Jersey Shore beachgoers have reason to celebrate as beaches and most boardwalks are opening in time for the holiday weekend that kicks off summer. Gov. Phil Murphy gave municipalities the green light May 14, amid the coronavirus pandemic, to implement their plans to reopen the Shore.
The governor had issued an executive order in April that gave municipalities the option to restrict access to their ocean fronts. Many closed their beaches and boardwalks or had restrictions in place.
Shore destinations will have a different feel this season as restrictions are in place that include the practice of social distancing, strong recommendations to wear face masks and no dining in at eateries. Additionally, organized games and contact sports are not permitted. Festivals, fireworks and concerts are canceled. Amusement parks, rides and arcades remain closed. Restaurants will offer takeout and delivery. Retail establishments will have curbside pickup.
The Jersey Shore is welcoming beach lovers near and far for some fun in the sun this Memorial Day weekend, with each town setting its own limit on available daily beach tags. Following is a rundown of the latest news about the state’s beaches and boardwalks as of May 19.
