Yes, indeed, Harborside Chatsare returning to Cape May Harbor at the Nature Center of Cape May. The winter, the Center staff welcomes an interesting variety of guests who will share their knowledge of topics ranging from local lore to scientific studies to marine topics and more.  This week, Tom Reed, of Reed’s Beach, the Migration Count Coordinator will present: “Cape May, migration capital of the world.”


-February 2-5, National Youth Wrestling Tournament

Wildwoods Convention Center. The Atlantic Coast Wrestling Association hosts an elementary and middle school wrestling tournament for grades K through 8, with over 1,500 wrestlers! Thursday February 2nd is weigh-in day from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. (Fee Based $20/wrestler or $100/each team). Regular weigh-in is Free at 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. Doors open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 a.m. and start time is 8:00 a.m. Duals will end by 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and by 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Admission fee: $20 a day or $50 for three day pass; Children $10 a day or $25 for three day pass. Parking fee TBA.

-February 4, Cape May Emlen Physick Exhibit: “Throw Like A Girl: Women In Baseball”

Women have played baseball as long as men have. They were in amateur and professional teams and leagues, joined high school and college teams, and competed in Negro League matches. The exhibit is open to the public and free through Sunday, March 26 in the Carriage House at the Emlen Physick Estate, 12-3pm. Visitors will learn about some of baseball’s female greats.

-February 15, Shore Slams in North Cape May

The End of the Road Theater in North Cape May hosts the Center for Community Arts (CCA) and WCFA Radio, 101.5 will return the very popular Shore Slams to the Lower Cape. Shore Slams will feature local participants who will regale audiences with Legends, Lies And Lore based on their own personal experiences. Stories, poems, original music, etc. will be loosely based on the given theme. Each participant will have 15 minutes to share a story, 5 minutes to share an original poem or 5 minutes to perform an original piece of music.

Four judges selected at random from the audience will assign a number from 1-10 for the performance. The performer with the highest score will be deemed he winner and receive a totally worthless prize suitable for absolutely nothing.

Steve had been covering the abandoned boat issue for many years.

This annual special free event will feature the Easter Bunny on Saturday, April 1st from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors will have an opportunity to have their picture taken with the popular rabbit – so bring your camera.The annual event sponsored by the Cape May County Board of Commissioners includes educational displays, scavenger hunt, crafts and live animal encounters. The event will kick off with an Easter Egg Hunt in the park at 10:00 a.m. The hunt is over in a flash so be sure to not miss it!

-April 6-8, Wrestling Tournament at Wildwoods Convention Center

Wildwoods Convention Center. The Atlantic Coast Wrestling Association will host the 20th annual event featuring National Folkstyle Wrestling Championships. The ‘War’ features a youth tournament with over 50 weight classes spread across 5 age divisions, and a High School Division with 15 weight classes. A girls division, K-12, will also be featured along with an open division. Weigh-Ins will be on Thursday. Tournament is held 8 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. 


-April 8, Easter Egg Hunt in North Wildwood

The New Jersey Invasion is an annual all JEEP event held on the beach in Wildwood, New Jersey.  Yes, you read that correctly, it’s on the beach at Rio Grande Ave. (behind the Wildwoods sign)! The entire event is in the sand, just a couple hundred feet from the iconic 2-mile long Wildwood boardwalk, with over 300 rides and attractions. A Jersey Shore Triathlon at its finest! Since 2004, Tri the Wildwoods has been the flagship race for DelMoSports. Before TRI AC, before Escape the Cape, and before IRONMAN 70.3 Atlantic City there was Tri the Wildwoods. Coined a “Rite of Passage Race,” by the Cape May Star & Wave, Tri the Wildwoods has always been known as a race of unpredictable weather, a challenging course, and possibly the best after party for a triathlon in the state of New Jersey! Simply stated, it’s a “must do” triathlon ‘down the Jersey Shore! Past champions of this race include USAT Olympian Joe Maloy (a Wildwoods native!), former USAT Olympian Jarod Shoemaker, and Lifetime Fitness Champion Alicia Kaye. The spirit of this Classic Jersey Shore Triathlon is not with the pros, but with the “Joe’s”; the thousands of age groupers who have made it to the starting line since 2004. Ocean City Airport Festival Annual festival at the Municipal Airport, 26th & Bay Ave. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Features include a ground display of unusual airplanes ranging from World War II Planes to Classics and Warbirds. The event will feature a parachute jump from Team Fastrax. Parachute Pyrotechnic Show consists of several highly trained and specially licensed Team Fastrax™ demonstrators exiting the aircraft 6,000 feet above Ocean City’s Beach & Boardwalk. Brilliant white or multi-colored projectile pyrotechnics are then ignited and flown in formation, creating a dazzling display for spectators on the ground. 8 p.m. jump with a landing on the 7th St Beach. Viewable along the entire Boardwalk.

1 p.m., 6 th – 14th Streets over the ocean. Thrill to some of the best stunt pilots and aerobatic champions in the world plus military demonstrations.


-September 22-24, North Wildwood Irish Festival

Olde New Jersey Avenue and surrounding pubs, North Wildwood. The largest Irish Festival on the East Coast celebrating Irish heritage with dancing, music, food and craft vendors from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Other festivities include a golf tournament, Irish dance lessons, 5K run and 1 mile walk, pipe exhibition, food court, and Catholic Mass. The event concludes with a parade on Surf Avenue from 20th to Spruce and Olde New Jersey Avenues on Sunday.

---HSOC “Howl-O-Ween” Parade Hosted by the Humane Society of Ocean City. Contestants are encouraged to dress themselves and their pooch in zany, fun Halloween costumes in the spirit of the season. Registration begins at 2:00 p.m. at the Sports & Civic Center. The parade begins at 3:00 P.M. and the procession is from 6th to 14th Street on the Boardwalk.
